Our 2023 Grand Prize Finalist, Emma Sophia Lam is invited to perform at the Adam Gyorgy Academy Annual Gala Concert on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 2 PM EST. The event will take place at Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall).
Emma Sophia Lam is a dedicated and accomplished young musician, currently a junior at Evergreen Valley High School (EVHS) in San Jose, California. At just 16 years old, Emma has already established herself as a remarkable pianist and violist, with a passion for music that has been nurtured since the age of 5.
Under the expert guidance of Dr. Ilya Blinov, Emma has honed her piano skills to a remarkable level, earning recognition and acclaim on both national and international stages. She is also an integral part of the EVHS string and symphony orchestras, serving as the principal violist and section leader. Emma's commitment to her musical pursuits extends even further, as she has formed a piano trio that plays an essential role in the EVHS orchestra program.
Beyond her musical talents, Emma finds joy in other activities, including swimming and the art of pastry baking. Her dedication to both her craft and her leisure activities exemplifies her well-rounded and passionate nature.
Emma's talent has garnered her numerous accolades and achievements, reflecting her exceptional skills and unwavering commitment to music. Notable highlights from her career include participating in the Adam Gyorgy Castle Academy in Hungary and performing at the prestigious Carnegie Hall during the PianoHouse International Piano Competition Prize Winners Gala Concert and the New York International Music Festival at Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium. Her achievements also extend to various competitions, including securing first place in the Pelican International Music Competition and the Treasury of Contemporary Composers-Senior Category at the United States Open Music Competition (USOMC), where she also clinched third place in the Showcase Piano Concerto: Intermediate-Senior category. Emma's dedication to her art was further recognized with a second-place win at the Bay Area Piano Competition.
As a testament to her continuous pursuit of excellence, Emma has had the privilege of participating in masterclasses led by distinguished musicians and educators such as Adam Gyorgy, Dr. Steven Spooner, Professor Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Dr. Gabor Farkas, Dr. Orsolya Szabo, Dr. Balazs Reti, Professor Alon Goldstein, and Dr. Randall Faber. These experiences have allowed her to refine her skills and broaden her musical horizons.
