Liyuan Xie

Violin, Age 22, Massachusetts, USA, Ms. Miriam Fried

Since his first solo orchestral debut at age 11, Mr. Xie established his career as a young violinist quickly and has collaborated regularly with the Shanghai Philharmonic, Shanghai Opera symphony, Nanjing Philharmonic, Qingdao Symphony, Shanghai Chamber Orchestra and Novus Classica Camerata. Recent concert appearances in season 2021-2022 includes performing Beethoven and Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Nanjing Philharmonic Orchestra, All five Mozart Violin Concertos Marathon with NCC Orchestra and Vivaldi ‘Four Seasons’ concert. He will also make his debut with Brookline Symphony Orchestra playing Bruch Violin Concerto this fall plus recital engagements in Music Mansion of Providence, Chandler Music Hall of Randolph Vermont, Trinity On Main Theatre of New Britain Connecticut and Harvard Music Association in Boston. In the summer of 2021, Liyuan joined the ‘Qingniao Project’ initiated by Yu Long, Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, as the first batch of Chinese outstanding young musicians.

Beside solo playing, Liyuan also enjoyed participating in Verbier Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, New York String Orchestra 50th Anniversary and worked with Juilliard Quartet, Mendelssohn Quartet, Borromeo Quartet and many others. He has played as a concertmaster role with Verbier Festival Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, Apollo Symphony Orchestra Of Boston, Nanjing Philharmonic Orchestra, NEC Symphony and Philharmonia. More recently, he has played as a guest violinist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood Festival.

Born in 2000, Chinese violinist Liyuan Xie is currently a graduate student studying with Ms. Miriam Fried at the New England Conservatory in Boston with the Dean’s Scholarship and Tan Family Foundation Scholarship. He previously studied with the renowned violin educator Ms. Binyou Zhou in Shanghai Conservatory for 9 years. 

Celine Chen

Piano, Age 18, California, USA, Instructed by Nobuyo Nishizaka

Celine Chen, 18, was instinctively drawn to the piano and began playing at the age of 4. As a student of Nobuyo Nishizaka, Celine has won countless accolades in numerous piano competitions, including the International Grande Music Competition, the LANSUM International Music Competition, the Seattle International Piano Competition, the Glory International Music Competition, the International Enkor Piano Competition, the James Ramos International Piano Competition, the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the Grand Virtuoso International Competition, the International Piano Competition Paderewski in Memoriam, the Russian Rhapsody International Youth Competition, the Chopin Avenue Piano Competition, the Spotlight International Competition, the Celia Mendez Young Pianist’s Beethoven Competition, and the Claudette Sorel International Piano Competition. Most notably, Celine was a finalist at the MTNA National Competitions, a scholarship recipient from the Friends of William Grant Still Arts Center, a merit awardee from the Music Center’s Spotlight, an alternate from the Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition, and more recently, the Grand Prize winner of the Young Musicians Inspiring Change International Competition, a Herbert Zipper Scholar, a 2022 winner of the YoungArts National Competition, and a From The Top finalist.

Celine was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in the winter of 2017 after receiving the top prize in the International Music Talent American Protege Competition. The WPTA Finland International Music Competition, similarly, invited her to an intensive piano lesson with Steinway Artist Elena Nesterenko. She has continuously worked with other world-renowned pianists, as well, most notably Lucinda Carver, Robert Thies, Christopher O’Riley, Alan Chow, Paul Roberts, and Elisabeth Pridonoff.

As a flutist, Celine studies under Karen Lundgren at the Colburn School of Music. This year, she was the Principal Flutist of the Colburn Youth Orchestra, the flutist of the Colburn Honors Woodwind Quintet, and a Herbert Zipper Scholar. In the past, she was the Principal Flute in the Hart District Honor Band and participated in the All Southern California School Band and the California All-State Band. Celine has played in multiple orchestras: the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, the California State University of Northridge Philharmonic, the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra, and the Colburn Sinfonietta. Celine has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Santa Clarita Philharmonic, as the winner of the 2017 Santa Clarita Concerto Competition, and the Collective Orchestra of Orange County, after receiving the 1st prize of the JCM CAPMT Concerto Competition. Other awards include top prizes in the Medici International Competition, the California Junior Bach Festival Complete Works, the Music Teacher Association of California Scholarship Competition, and the American Protégé International Romantic Competition, which allowed her to make her Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 13. Celine was invited to perform in a masterclass with Jean Ferrandis, a world-renowned French flutist, as well as Meera Gudipati. She also had the opportunity to perform in many recitals at Colburn, including the Spring Honor Recital and Fall Honor Recital, performing along with other talented, young artists.

An avid chamber musician, Celine was chosen to tour various cities in Europe as a JCM debut artist, participating in masterclasses with Petr Tchaikovsky and Avedis Kouyoumdjian. Her piano trio placed silver in the PCM Chamber Music Competition and were semi-finalists at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. She also had the chance to participate in Composers Direct!, performing compositions by Esther Ollivier. She was also part of MTAC Friends of Today’s Music, recording commissioned work Beads of Sunlight by Augusta Read Thomas for a world premiere.


Solmin Lee

Flute, Age 16, Shanghai, China, Instructed by Minjoung Kim

Solmin Lee is born in South Korea and moved to Shanghai, China. She first played flute at the age of eleven. In 2016, Solmin joined Shanghai Korean Youth Orchestra as a second flute position. Within orchestra, she also performed under the baton of Maestro Nanse Gum. At present, she has been serving as a principal flutist in the Shanghai Korea Youth orchestra.

Solmin has won several music competitions including New York Golden Classic Music Awards, International Youth Music Competition Atlanta in USA, Valencia Wards Music competition, Singapore Raffles International Music competition, Grand Maestro International Music competition, 2021 Quebec International Music competition, 2022 Quebec International Music competition, New York International Classic competition, The New York classical international music competition and so on. Solmin was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in the winter of 2020. 

Hannah Kim

Piano, Age 13, New York, USA, Instructed by Young Park

Hannah Kim is a gifted pianist who has achieved numerous awards and achievements through her dedication and commitment to music. Her passion for the piano began in 2014 when she placed third in the Young Musicians Competition for Piano. Since then, she has attended various music camps, including the Bravura Youth Orchestra Summer Music Camp and the AME Virtual Summer Music Camp. She also attended a piano master class with Ingrid Clarfield in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, sponsored by Forte Jacobs Music Company, where she received expert guidance on her piano playing. 

Hannah has also competed in numerous music competitions, such as the New York Young Virtuoso International Competition, where she won First Prize in Piano in 2021 and the Rising Talents of Americans, Great Composers Competition, where she won First Place in Group III (Age 11-13) in 2019.

Hannah's musical achievements have earned her a place among the most outstanding young musicians. She has won several prizes in the New Jersey Music Teachers Association (NJMTA) competition, including First Place in the NJMTA competition for piano in 2020, First Place in the NJMTA Young Musicians Competition for Piano Duet in 2019, and High Honor in the NJMTA Spring Recital Audition for Piano in 2016. She has also received Honorable Mention in the Steinway Piano Competition in 2019 and 2020 and Honorable Mention in the International Grande Music Competition in 2022.

In addition to her music career, Hannah has a wide range of interests and hobbies, including reading, playing the violin, drawing, and skiing. She has also attended the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, where she participated in the 101 pianists program, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to music, and she continues to inspire and motivate audiences with her music.


Alexander Moon

Violin, Age 10, Virginia, USA, Instructed by Ji Hyun Bae

Age 10 and below

Alexander Moon (10) began playing violin at the age of 5 and has been passionate about it ever since.  Because of his love for the instrument, he quickly developed as a violinist and has won numerous regional, national and international competitions and awards and performed multiple times at Carnegie Hall. Notable competitions include American Protege, Golden Key, Golden Classical, Metropolitan music Festival, Rockville Music Competitions. In 2021, he was also invited to play for the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (AYPO), which according to the Washington Post is "widely considered the flagship of the D.C. area youth orchestras."  He served as concertmaster for AYPO's debut orchestra in 2021 and was recently invited to join AYPO's string ensemble, which is the next level orchestra in AYPO.
